How to choose a suitable bronze bushing

Jan 04, 2025

1. Working conditions

Load size: If it is a light load, you can choose a bronze bushing with relatively low hardness and low cost, such as a tin bronze bushing . For heavy loads, you should choose a bronze bushing with higher strength and hardness, such as an aluminum bronze bushing or a manganese bronze bushing.

Speed: When running at high speed, the friction coefficient and heat resistance of the bushing need to be considered. Bronze bushings with low friction coefficients, such as tin bronze bushings, are more suitable, and good lubrication conditions must be ensured. When running at low speed, bronze bushings with better wear resistance, such as lead bronze bushings, can be selected.

Working temperature: If the working temperature is high, a bronze bushing with good heat resistance, such as an aluminum bronze bushing, should be selected.

In low temperature environments, general bronze bushings can be used, but care must be taken to prevent the material from becoming brittle due to low temperature.

Environmental corrosion: In corrosive environments, such as marine environments or chemical industries, bronze bushings with strong corrosion resistance should be selected, such as aluminum bronze bushings or silicon bronze bushings.

2. Size requirements

Inner diameter and outer diameter: Select bronze bushings of appropriate size according to the shaft diameter and hole size of the installation part. Make sure there is an appropriate clearance between the bushing, shaft and housing. It should not be too loose to cause looseness, nor too tight to affect installation and operation.

Length: Determine the length of the bushing based on actual needs. Longer bushings can provide better support and guidance, but will also increase cost and installation difficulty.

Performance requirements

Wear resistance: If the wear resistance is high, you can choose a bronze bushing containing wear-resistant elements, such as a lead bronze bushing or a bronze composite bushing containing hard particles.

Self-lubricating property: In some occasions where lubrication is difficult, such as aerial working equipment or underwater equipment, bronze bushings with self-lubricating properties, such as bronze bushings containing graphite, can be selected.

Precision requirements: If the size and shape accuracy of the bushing are required to be high, bushings produced using high-precision processing technology should be selected, such as bushings manufactured by precision casting or machining.

4. Cost considerations

Material cost: The price of bronze bushings made of different materials varies greatly. Under the premise of meeting the working conditions and performance requirements, choose bronze bushings with lower costs.

Processing cost: The processing cost of bushings with complex shapes or high precision requirements is high. If possible, choose bushings with relatively simple processing technology to reduce costs.

5. Supplier Selection

Quality reputation: Choose a supplier with a good quality reputation to ensure that the bronze bushings provided are of reliable quality. You can evaluate by checking the supplier's qualification certificate, customer reviews, etc.

After-sales service: Consider the supplier's after-sales service level, such as whether it provides technical support, product quality assurance, etc. Good after-sales service can provide you with protection during use.
