Hardness Of Phosphor Bronze Alloy

Aug 23, 2023

Phosphor bronze (phosphor bronze) (tin bronze) (tin phosphor bronze) is made of bronze with degassing agent added, phosphorus P content 0.03-0.35%, tin content 5-8%, and other trace elements such as iron Fe, zinc Zn, etc.
Compositional ductility and good fatigue resistance can be used for electrical and mechanical materials, and its reliability is higher than that of general copper alloy products such as phosphorus copper, phosphorus and copper alloys. Instead of pure phosphorus, it is used to reduce brass and bronze alloys, and it is used as phosphorus addition in the manufacture of phosphor bronze. It is available in 5%, 10% and 15% grades and can be added directly to molten metal. It acts as a strong reducing agent, and phosphorus hardens the bronze. Even adding a small amount of phosphorus to copper or bronze can improve its fatigue strength. To make phosphor bronze, lumps of phosphorus are pressed into molten copper until the reaction stops. When the proportion of phosphorus in copper is within 8.27%, it is soluble and forms Cu3P, which has a melting point of 707°C. The melting point of phosphorus copper containing 10% phosphorus is 850°C, and the melting point of phosphorus copper containing 15% is 1022°C. When more than 15%, the alloy is unstable. Phosphor bronze is sold in grooved sheet or pellet form.
In Germany, in order to save copper, phosphorus zinc (phosphorzinc) is used instead of phosphor copper. Metal phosphorus (metaIlophos) is the name of German phosphorus zinc containing 20-30% phosphorus. The reduction of commercial copper with phosphorus, and the phosphorus content of which is less than 0.50%, is also called phosphor copper. While the electrical conductivity decreased by about 30%, the hardness and strength increased. Phosphorus tin is a master alloy of tin and phosphorus, used in melting
Bronze to make phosphor bronze. Phosphorus tin usually contains more than 5% phosphorus, but does not contain lead. Its appearance is like antimony, and it is a larger crystal, shining brightly. Sold in flakes. Contains 3.5% phosphorus and less than 0.50% impurities according to the requirements of the US Federal Regulations.
